Scotland hosted its first Building Security & Trust Hackathon, bringing together more than seventy participants from financial services, regulation, academia, and the FinTech sector. The day built on eighteen months of FinTech-Tables’ leadership forums, where recurring challenges around readiness, resilience, and partnership had surfaced.
Rather than another round of discussion, the hackathon provided structured working sessions across three themes: cybersecurity and operational resilience, supplier readiness, and partnership design. Each group examined the practical barriers slowing adoption, from overlapping standards to long onboarding cycles and the cultural gaps that weaken collaboration.
A morning panel featuring leaders from the FCA, academia, global risk, and major institutions framed the day with a focus on behaviour, governance, and what a FinTech 3.0 era will require. The sessions that followed moved quickly into design work, surfacing approaches such as shared baselines, readiness frameworks, proportional risk models, and clearer procurement pathways.
The event marked a significant step for Scotland’s ecosystem. It created space for honest exchange, tested new ways of working, and produced a set of ideas ready to be taken forward through working groups and future international hackathons.
